As you can see I haven’t quite made to Uganda yet. Only Heathrow. What a disappointment! I wish I could be magic-ed to Jinja without all this travelling business.
Left Barbara on Stonehouse station platform today after a relaxing few days which included some lovely home-made English breakfasts. I feel quite alone now – which is perhaps the hardest part of the next few weeks. I’m looking forward to so much and yet at the same time this is a leap of faith for me. I think I’ve always travelled with friends or to meet friends that I already know. I know it will be alright but it leaves me just a little bit nervous.
I’ll be up at 4.00am to take a taxi from my grotty little hotel (should have paid more for a bit more luxury at my age!) Anyway I’m discovering that Premier Inns, just up the road, have Costa coffee and free Wifi. I’m already being resourceful.
So, to all friends and colleagues, I’m going to try to blog my way through the next 3 weeks. That’s blog not blag. I’ll be emailing you all with a link to this diary. Click on Follow and you should get email alerts every time I hold forth. I guess if you’re reading this you have already done it. Well done.

If this blog goes suddenly silent its because the web connection in Jinja is not up to it. Who knows?
Back soon.

PS the ice is on Derwent water a few winters ago.
Man up Rob you’ll be fine. Rubbish dealt with, greenhouse door open. Enjoy your flight xx
